ViaSat Selected as VSAT Network Supplier for Phase 4 of e-Mexico Broadband Project: New Hub and Terminals Will Expand Internet Access to More Citize
ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) is supplying an additional LinkStar(R) hub and 1,200 VSATs (Very Small Aperture Terminals) to INTERDirec (INTERNET Directo S.A. de C.V.) in the Phase 4 expansion of the e-Mexico network. The network provides broadband access to the general population of Mexico via Digital Community Centers (DCCs) and schools. The LinkStar system was the original winning network technology for 3,200 VSATs in Phase I of the project as well. (NASDAQ:VSAT) and Verso Technologies have successfully tested a satellite backhaul system for GSM mobile communications that can cut the cost of GSM backhaul through more efficient use of satellite bandwidth. The system combines ViaSat LinkStar(R) satellite communications networking and Verso NetPerformer(R) technology. The satellite GSM backhaul system was successfully tested in a GSM network in Papua New Guinea for Telikom PNG Ltd. Following the successful trial, Telikom PNG is planning to roll out 50 GSM over satellite remote sites throughout Papua New Guinea.
