ViaSat LinkStar DVB-S2 VSAT Shipments Reach 35 Networks Worldwide: DVB-S2 technology promise of bandwidth efficiency paying off for

CARLSBAD, Calif. (BusinessWire EON) February 15, 2007 --     The hub-based LinkStar(S2) system, the leading IP-based VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal), incorporates the new DVB-S2 waveform that offers up to 30% greater bandwidth efficiency, substantially reducing network operating costs and increasing network capacity. The ViaSat DVB-S2 product line also includes the LinkWay(S2)(R) mesh networking system. Both VSATs can connect to any S2-capable LinkStar hub, enabling powerful and flexible hybrid star/mesh network architectures as well.

"This is obviously a case where the technology is living up to the promise. We have seen several of our DVB-S customers upgrade to DVB-S2 and we are attracting dozens of new operators who can reach more customers with their services because of the improved economics that the LinkStar(S2) system brings them," said Chris Leber, VP and general manager of ViaSat VSAT Networks.
